Rocha Faria Municipal Hospital

It is part of the list of municipal emergency units in Rio de Janeiro, offering 24-hour trauma care for adults, children and pregnant women. It has a maternity service, a surgical center and a hospital ward. Inaugurated in 1940, it is named after the physician Benjamin Antônio da Rocha Faria Junior (1852-1936), member of the National Academy of Medicine. Today the unit serves around 20,000 people per month and is a reference in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Campo Grande. As an emergency backup, it has 198 beds, distributed among maternity, pediatrics, internal medicine, orthopedics, general surgery, adult and neonatal ICU services. The unit also provides outpatient vascular surgery care, marked by Sisreg, as part of the project ‘Rio sem Varicose Veins’, having carried out 463 procedures from July to December. In November 2018, HMRF revalidated the title of ‘Baby-Friendly Hospital’.
